DCE bags inter college contest

Doraha College of Education bagged the Smt Saroj Bansal Memorial Running Trophy for the fourth consecutive year during the Inter College Competitions organised by Saytam College of Education, Moga, recently.

The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Peace Education’. As many as 22 colleges, including BCM College of Education, Ludhiana, Rayat College of Education Nawanshahar, Malwa Central College of Education Ludhiana, and Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh, participated in the competition.

The competitions were conducted in various categories such as Power Point Presentations (teacher and students), creative writing (essay, story and poem), poster making, mural making and flower arrangement (fresh and dry).

In the faculty category in Power Point Presentation, Jaspreet Kaur won the first prize for her topic ‘Expanding Peace -- Ways and Means’, which stressed that peace was the lone solution to conflict and terrorism. “Without peace there can be no development. Peace not only includes a consciousness of human rights and values but also environmental consciousness. Love for nature, concern for green cover and ozone layer depletion are some of the ways of making peace,” she added.

Paramjit Kaur of DCE, who topped in the students category in essay writing competition, highlighted the role of education in developing the value of peace in the future generations. She added that peace education should be integrated with the course content. “The curriculum should be oriented towards inculcating the value of love, cooperation, tolerance, justice and conflict resolution,” the participant stressed. Kirti Sharma bagged the second prize in story writing category.

Sukhpal Singh, chairman, and Kiran Gera of Doraha College of Education congratulated the participants and winners for bringing laurels to the college.
